Whenever I paint with watercolor and the drying pigment manages to arrange itself in a way that I find pleasing, I feel like I've just made an advantageous deal with the devil. Every day I ride the train through the city where I live or look out the window of the tall building where I work. From there I watch people, with so many preferences, dreams and foibles, conforming to the confines of rountine and urban infrastructure. Watching these spirits repeatedly bend and twist to fit the material world gave me the inspiration to corral the chaos of water color into geometric structures that interweave through these painted spaces.
